On a last stop home today I went to Health Styles Market to pick up some organic cheese. On the way out I put Lydia in her car seat, shut her door, then put the groceries in the front passenger seat along with my purse then set my car keys on top of the center counsel. I shut the passenger door then went around to my drivers side - I put my hand out to open the door handle (not even touching the handle yet) and I hear a "click-click".
Chills just ran up and down my spine and I almost couldn't believe what I had just heard. Lydia's door does NOT have an automatic lock, so my car had just magically locked itself the very moment before I could open my door. And not just a "lock", a DOUBLE lock. It locked everything, including the back hatch and window, with my poor baby inside!!!
I ran back into Health Styles and used their phone to call Action Lock and Key. They were there within 5 minutes and it took him less than 5 seconds to unlock my door. I told him what happened and he said it had never happened to him personally but he has heard it from people many times. As I went to grab my purse to pay him he said "have a great day" and hopped in his van. I prompted said "Stop! Let me pay you!". " We don't charge when there are babies in the car " he replied politely with a smile. I told him THANK YOU and that I would use them for life and recommend them to everyone I know.
Ryan had a key made on his way home from work today so from now on we will have a spare. We have one of those magnetic key lockers, so we will hide it on the car somewhere. Who knows when my car will decide to lock itself again, with my baby in the car. Thank God I was at a place with a phone and in town so someone was able to be there quickly.
